How to Buy Out the Shop in Probably Stolen
The mentor says a mortgage or a direct buyout is possible and the property value is on the calendar. The demo has not implemented the buyout yet.

Buying out the shop is already written into the game. The switch is just not wired up yet. In the current demo you cannot do it, and the option does not appear even when your cash exceeds the property value.
The reason is simple: this is not a missing condition, it is a missing feature.
At the end of the tutorial the mentor explains that once you have saved enough you can find someone to offer you a mortgage, or buy the store outright if you have the credits. He also tells you the important part: the property value is on the calendar screen.
In recorded runs that number showed as 12,000 credits. In the same save, rent climbed from 210 to over 290.
Why having the money is not enough
Three independent pieces of evidence point the same way:
- A guide creator in September 2026 said plainly: “for now, in the play test, you can’t buy out your store… It’s not yet implemented.” He raised his cash above the property value and the option still never appeared.
- On r/ProbablyStolen the same month, someone asked “Anyone know how to buy the shop?” and the top reply was “Can’t yet”.
- In a save past day 100, the streamer says he has never seen anyone actually buy the property.
So the useful version of this page is not “how to reach 12,000”. It is build a cash flow that survives, and wait for the full release.
Rent is the real opponent
The store page is blunt about it: rent rises regardless of how good your week was. Once you fall behind, the store loses attractiveness, fewer customers walk in, revenue drops, the gap widens, and climbing back usually means taking on riskier deals.
Two things players add:
- Missing a payment gives you one chance to pay it late. Only one. The second time triggers the punishment.
- The property value lives on the calendar screen, exactly where the mentor says it does.
Four things worth doing before launch
- Protect the rent. Treat it as a fixed cost. Subtract it before you think about restocking.
- Turn income into a pipeline, not a lucky sale. Batch smelting, water purification and rat farming are pipelines. One-off windfalls are not.
- Watch the property value on the calendar. See how it moves with the rent cycle.
- Check the landlord’s visit. When the landlord shows up, read the options. If the buyout ever ships, that is where the entry will be.
Buying the shop is not the same as an ending
The buyout is a progression goal. An ending is how the story closes. Neither exists as a finished thing yet. For the difference between “this run is over” and “the story is over”, read the ending page. For the launch schedule, read the release date.
Three claims to ignore
- 12,000 is a number one save displayed. It moves with your starting scenario and events. It is not a fixed price.
- The developer has never confirmed the buyout will ship, and has never published mortgage terms.
- The landlord collects rent. The buyout is a separate system. Do not treat the landlord as a purchase button.

Does Probably Stolen Have an Ending? What Is Actually Confirmed
There is no verifiable ending yet. The buyout is not implemented, so the demo has no reachable story finish. A run ends via arrears or a security verdict.
